Twins and More

I’ve had a recent trend. In the past month I have photographed several women who were pregnant with twins and triplets. With the baby bump getting big fast, they came in much earlier for their maternity photography.

I’m sure it was just an odd coincidence and not something in the water LOL.  Everyone seem really excited about this, which I love to see.   As this joy comes through in the photographs.

Good luck to all you wonderful moms.   See you soon for your newborn photo sessions!

Surprise

Sometimes an infant just makes me smile as a photographer.   This expression was just so cute that you had to love it.

Peace in our future

I had a great time photographing some twins for their 3 month shoot.  I love to show off the size difference between the baby and the parent.  Here is one of the twins showing off.

Pregnancy at Sunrise

Sometimes you just have to have some fun when creating maternity photos.  A lot of moms joke about how big their bellies have become, and this time I asked if we could do something fun.   She was more than willing to get a photo that would be a very non-traditional photo of her pregnancy.

This concept was based upon some photos I had seen of the sunrise over the earth from space.  So with some careful lighting, a fair amount of Photoshop and mom who likes to have fun, this photo was created.

Sunrise Over Pregnant Belly

The final photo is a combination of four images.  The belly and the moon are photos which I took, the space is from the Hubble telescope, and the sun flare is a Photoshop created image.

For your maternity photographs, imagination is the only limit.  So talk with your photographer about any ideas you have no matter how “crazy” you think they might be.

Maternity Photographer in Phoenix Heat

This time of year here in Phoenix is especially tough on our pregnancy portrait clients.  The heat is tough on everyone, but extra hard on those expecting.

I always tell my maternity clients to stay hydrated and help themselves to the bottled water in the refrigerator.  I rather we take a few extra breaks to keep everyone comfortable.   Of course I crank the AC down to make sure the studio is nice and cool too.

I don’t do outdoor shoots this time of year, it just isn’t safe.  Too easy to overheat.

Heart Hands

One of the classic maternity photos is known as heart hands.  Basically is the formation of a heart with your hands on your pregnant belly.

Heart Hands for Maternity

As you can see, it is possible to create a very well shaped heart with your hands.  It does take some practice though.  So go ahead and practice a bit in front of a mirror before you come in for your maternity photo session and when your photographer ask you to make a heart, you’ll be ready.

Sleep little darling

One of the things that new parents enjoy is watching their newborn baby sleep.  So of course some classic newborn photos always feature them sleeping.  In fact getting wide eyed newborn photos is a challenge because the do sleep so much.  So we like to advantage of the sleeping to get some cute photos.

I really like black and white (B&W) photos of newborns.  It makes for a pleasing tone and sets a very nice mood.   New moms often worry about the blotchiness that their newborn often has, and B&W is a great way to conceal it.  The end result is a beautiful baby photo.

I allow extra time for my newborn shoots so we can work around their schedules. From naps to meals to changing.  Being a flexible photographer is the key to making this memorable photos.

The bellies have it.

As a maternity photographer, I know the key element of the photos will be the belly.  The key is how to feature the belly in a photograph.  I am always coming up with new ideas to make it fun.  Over the next few weeks I hope to be showing a wide variety of traditional and very non-traditional maternity photos.

Hopefully this photos will give you some ideas for your maternity session with me.  And just because you haven’t see a photo here, doesn’t mean I haven’t done it.  I only show photos with permission, so there are lots of others ideas available.

B&W Maternity Belly

I like to vary between black and white and color photographs for maternity.  Both work well with this type of portrait.  The great part about digital, is you can choose B&W or color after the maternity photos have been taken.
